What is shingle installation?
As the name suggests, shingle roof installation refers to the method of installing shingles to the roofing underlay. Similar to tile roof installations, we begin the process by affixing the shingles to the underlayment with an asphalt-saturated material. Depending on the slope of your roof, we may need multiple layers of underlayment.
This material must be properly attached in order to prevent overlying tiles and ensure the durability of your roof for years to come. Next, we install high-quality, corrosion-resistant metal flashing around chimneys, conduits, vents. After the roofing underlay is complete, we install your chosen tiles until the full surface of the roof is covered, applying mortar as needed.

There are a variety of advantages to shingle roof installation! Firstly, it is one of the easiest roofing materials to install. In general, shingles are also cheaper than tile, which makes them a popular choice for homes that stretch over large areas.
For environmentally-conscious buyers, shingle roofing can be a bit off-putting. This is because most shingles are made with petroleum by-products and can only be recycled by specialized plants. If the shingles are not recycled, it can take up to 300 years for them to fully decompose.
Not all shingle roofing has the same life expectancy! For example, standard asphalt shingles can last from 15 to 18 years, depending on the manufacturer. On the other hand, high-quality dimensional shingles (often called ‘architectural shingles’) have a different projected lifespan. They can last between 24 to 30 years, with proper care and maintenance.
Not all shingles are created equal! There are two primary types of shingles that buyers should consider: organic and architectural shingles. Organic shingles contain a core of organic material, such as paper, and they are later coated with asphalt to make them waterproof. Alternatively, architectural shingles (also called laminated or dimensional shingles) are created by bonding a heavy fiberglass mat base with ceramic-coated minerals. These shingles are bound together using a special sealant that adds an appealing visual effect to the roof.
While shingle roofing does not require daily care, we do recommend performing regular maintenance throughout the year. Maintenance for a shingle roof isn’t too labor-intensive! Typically, you’ll just need to clear out all the leaves and debris from your gutter to ensure water can drain cleanly through to the downspout. Additionally, if you have vegetation growing immediately next to your roof, consider cutting down any branches that may be clogging your gutters. This will also prevent the branches from damaging your shingles if they are dislodged by a storm.
